Texas Tech

As I gear up for the Cotton Bowl on Friday (GO TECH!) I thought I'd share the door decorations at one of my schools. It's a tradition at this school for the teachers to decorate their door to represent a college. One of the teachers I work with asked if he could decorate his door to honor my school. I said, "YES!" He ordered a bunch of Texas Tech stuff from the Visitor's Center, and I got him some cool stickers and pictures. I love how it turned out....

Back to Work

Today was my first day back to work after two weeks at home because of snow. It was actually nice to be back at work, as cabin fever had set in pretty hard while being snowed in! I really love my job at Girl Scouts because I get to work with some cool people, and I get to have troop meetings all day long - what's not to love?!?! The program I work for is called Girl Scouting in the School Day. We partner with schools where more than half of the kids are on free or reduced lunch. We provide an opportunity for girls to be part of Girl Scouts, when they may not have had the opportunity otherwise. It's an awesome program!!

Next week, when the kids are back in school, I get to return to the classroom. I'm working on the "Let's Get Cooking" badge with my 4th and 5th graders. I'm working on the "Caring and Sharing" petal with my 1st grade Daisies (they earn petals towards a whole flower as Daisy Girl Scouts...cute, right?!?!) My 6th graders are working on acceptance and appreciation. We're watching "Rabbit Proof Fence." It's about three Aboriginal girls who are kidnapped from their home in 1931 in Australia. They are taken because they are not seen as acceptable by society because they aren't white. They escape, and hike all the way back home. It's seriously an awesome movie, and it's based on a true story!! Have you seen it? If not, put it on the list!

Christmas in Seattle

I couldn't go home this year because I'm saving all my vacation days for my brother's wedding in May. Not to mention, even if I had booked a flight, it probably would've been cancelled along with all the other flights because of all the crazy snow in Seattle!! So, I spent this Christmas with my family via iChat. It definitely wasn't the same, but it was good to be able to see them open gifts and have our usual Christmas fun.

Secret Santa

We did a Secret Santa Gift Exchange at Starbucks this year. We filled out notecards on ourselves that told our Secret Santa our favorite things. I drew Shannon, and got her some of her favorites: gummy bears, Twix, artsy stuff, and anything PINK! I had so much fun shopping and making stuff for Shannon. For her final gift, I made her an "S," and a set of monogrammed notecards. I love how they turned out. What do you think??

New Haircut

On a whim yesterday, mainly because I'd been so frustrated with my hair the last few days, I went to the salon and got a haircut. I went to a new salon, because I couldn't drive to my normal one due to the snow. So, you can tell I was desperate for a haircut!! And, the guy actually did a great job...it's just really SHORT!! I'm pretty sure I didn't say I wanted it this short, but I do like it... It's just taking some getting used to. You know that feeling when you're in the shower washing your newly chopped hair for the first time, and you're kinda in shock at how much less hair is on your head. That's where I'm at...

Three Snow Days

I can't believe it! Here I sit, on the conclusion of my THIRD snow day in a row. I have to admit, it's been fun to be home. I've been able to get a lot of stuff done, both for work and around the house!! The snow reminds me of Red River. I loved living there. It was really fun learning to ski and teaching skiing to the young ones. My favorite was working with the four year olds!!

I've wanted to start a blog for a while, so I thought why not start it out by giving you a tour of our Christmas decorations this year. Enjoy!!

This is our mini tree in the living room. It's my first live tree ever. I love the smell of it!!


Space Needle Ornament!! Definitely one of my favorites. I got it during my first trip to Seattle, with the hopes that I would live here someday...and now I do!!


My mom got me this sweater ornament. I have a whole collection now. I hope to have a Sweater Tree one year!!

This is the silver tree in the craft room. It's Raider-ific!! It's decorated in red, silver, and white.

I made this wreath. I saw it last year on The Martha Stewart Show, and I've been waiting all year to make it. I got the wrapping paper from the Container Store's Wrapping Wonderland (FUN!). I love how it turned out!!


This is my nativity scene. I love it and I think it goes really well with on the mantle with the tin star collection.


My mom made this advent calendar. Isn't it cute! She did a great job.


Sleigh Bells Ring! I got this sign at one of my favorite craft fairs in Lubbock! I miss Texas craft fairs!!
