Billy

Billy is our 100 pound yellow lab, who thinks he is a lap dog. I've had dogs all my life, but I've never had one with as much personality, sensitivity, and emotion as Billy. His favorite things to do include carrying GIANT sticks (actually, probably better described as small trees) around, swimming, laying on the couch on his back, and eating.




About a year and a half ago, Billy was hit by a Waste Management Truck in Estes Park, CO. His two hind legs were badly broken, with the bones turned to mush...I'll save you the other gory details. The first thing the vet said was that he'd need to be put to sleep. We were devastated, and wanted to know if there were any other options. The vet suggested amputation, but we were still unsure. Finally, the vet decided to put casts on Billy's two hind legs and see how they healed up. After about two months of casts, a giant cone around his neck, and lots of love from the people in Estes Park, the casts came off and Billy's legs had healed back to almost normal.

He still limps a little after a lot of hard playing, but we have pain medicine for him when that happens. He's such a FUN dog, and clearly a fighter! We love him a LOT!! Who could resist a (mud-covered) face like this....
