About a year and a half ago, Billy was hit by a Waste Management Truck in Estes Park, CO. His two hind legs were badly broken, with the bones turned to mush...I'll save you the other gory details. The first thing the vet said was that he'd need to be put to sleep. We were devastated, and wanted to know if there were any other options. The vet suggested amputation, but we were still unsure. Finally, the vet decided to put casts on Billy's two hind legs and see how they healed up. After about two months of casts, a giant cone around his neck, and lots of love from the people in Estes Park, the casts came off and Billy's legs had healed back to almost normal.
He still limps a little after a lot of hard playing, but we have pain medicine for him when that happens. He's such a FUN dog, and clearly a fighter! We love him a LOT!! Who could resist a (mud-covered) face like this....

I love Billy. He is so cute. I have a big giant yellow lab as well. He also loves to swim, play, run, and eat anything. Since Caroline entered our lives he has gotten a little fat because we do not have as much time to exercise him.
Awww! I want to squeeze him! So cute!
Cool story! I have a chocolate lab and she is a sweet baby. But like Allison said, once you have kids, they go from being your baby to your pet. Kind of sad, but true.
